Delicious Dishes to Make in a Pizza Oven

Scallops Pan Roasted! Easy as can be and a great summer dish .  Use Dry Scallops ,a cast iron flat pan, salt pepper, butter and lemon!

Note A dry scallop has not been treated with any chemicals additives or solutions. Compared to the wet scallops, they are darker (more of a beige color, whereas the wet scallops are whiter), and they have a more pure flavor. While I love shrimp, crab, fish, and lobster, seared scallops are fantastic !  Their mildly sweet flavor and that caramelized crust they get when seared in a super hot pan woo !  Not to mention, they’re really easy to make!

The first thing you want to do when you’re searing anything is to pat the outside dry with a paper towel

Next, sprinkle the scallops with sea salt and black pepper h

Heat up the skillet until it’s really hot, and add some high smoke point oil .  Extra virgin olive oil will begin to smoke immediately over high heat. Instead, reach for grapeseed oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil. Sear the scallops for about 2 minutes on the first side, then add a small pat of butter to the pan while the other side finishes cooking, and some fresh lemon juice to flavor the scallops or a small amount of  a good sweet white wine . Once the the scallops are done cooking, serve immediately, and make sure to transfer them to another dish for serving. The cast iron retains heat and will continue cooking the scallops unless you take them out.

Interestingly, if you bake naan in your pizza oven, you keep to the same style of cooking used by the Persians thousands of years ago. Ratatouille

The Disney movie might be a hit with you or your children, but ratatouille has quite a significant history. This vegetarian dish was created by destitute farmers in France during the 18th century and was made with abundant summer vegetables. Nowadays, you can recreate this dish to be of top-notch quality with the help of your pizza oven. Start by sautéing garlic, onions, and peppers in a cast iron skillet. Afterward, add vegetables like zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, and squash. Next, spread some tomato sauce over it, and you just brought a centuries-old classic back! To make it more interesting, you can top the ratatouille with grated swiss or gruyere cheese and let it cook in the pizza oven until it gets a nice bubbly cheese effect. Enjoy the deliciousness of this peasant food you just revived, and have a toast to its revival on your dining table!

Plum Tarte Tatin

Plum Tarte Tatin is a well-loved French dish that roots in the classic railway hotel in Lamotte-Beuvron. This recipe has spread throughout the southern Cajun cuisine of New Orleans, USA. People may think it takes work to recreate the French-based pastry, but with a Forno Piombo pizza oven, it is simpler than expected. For this pastry, all one needs to do is mix some melted butter, sugar, and anise to form an aromatic syrup, then pour it over thinly sliced plums in a heat-resistant pan. Finally, top it off with puff pastry and bake in a preheated pizza oven for 10-15 minutes. The result is a delicious and impressive plum pastry that would impress even the most demanding foodies.

Flammkuchen

Flammkuchen is a German phrase for “pie cooked in flames,” which makes it an ideal dish for a wood-fired pizza oven. It’s similar to an Italian pizza but without tomato sauce. Instead, you can use bacon fat, gruyere, muenster cheese, creme fraiche, onions, and mushrooms. This may seem over-the-top, but the outcome is a flavor-packed bite that will leave you wanting more.

Gourmet Hot Dogs

If you ask a local New Yorker, they will say that the hot dog is the epitome of street food in the city. Unfortunately, these usually include high fat and sodium levels and may be prepared using dubious methods. With a pizza oven, however, you can ensure your hot dog is of the highest quality and much healthier. Get a top-quality, kosher frankfurter and cook it in the oven to get that traditional char. Then, garnish it with creative, unique toppings such as kimchi, pickled onions, chimichurri, pesto, and cotija cheese. Using premium frank and high-grade ingredients will result in a gourmet hot dog that will even impress the most experienced street vendor.

Lamb Chops

Lamb is a very flexible meat to cook, a typical component in Mediterranean and Indian food. The significant challenge with lamb is that it can become like an old shoe if cooked in the appropriate atmosphere and temperature. That is not a pleasant meal. If lamb chops are cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven, the outside gets a scrumptious bark while the inside becomes unbelievably soft. When you have the chance to taste lamb chops cooked in a pizza oven, you would never opt for any other technique.

Of Course – Pizza!

The first thought that comes to mind when considering the potential of a backyard brick oven is pizza. But more than just the standard version, the sky is the limit about the types of pizza one can make. For example, California-style, Chicago deep dish, Neapolitan, Sicilian, Greek, and the New York classic. You can get the desired char, leopard-spotted cheese, and crunchy yet chewy crust with a homemade oven. You can even experiment with breakfast or dessert pizzas if you’re daring.
